For marine coverage you require an omnidirectional antenna that has a wide vertical beamwidth so it can work over a wide angle range.  The AMA1-5 has been carefully designed to ensure maximum coverage with just the right amount of antenna gain.  (Too much gain and the antenna will loose coverage as the vessel rocks with the waves).
